Dynamic Variation:

River Oaks

Nestled between The Galleria and Montrose neighborhoods, is the shaded oasis of River Oaks. The luxurious area brings foodies, shoppers, and visitors for food, activities, and gorgeous, mansion-filled neighborhoods.

What to do

One of the most-popular attractions in the area is the Landmark River Oaks Theatre. Built in 1939, this River Oaks Shopping Center destination is a perfect spot to catch an independent or foreign film. While in the popular shopping district, stroll along many shops before or after the show.

For more shopping, many flock to Highland Village, where upscale shops like Anthropologie, Pottery Barn, and Williams Sonoma are located. Other stores include Lucchese Boots, Crate and Barrel, and an Apple store. Continuing down Westheimer Rd. towards downtown, where you'll find shops like Billy Reid, Sloan-Hall and antique stores lining the road.

Where to eat

If you’re looking for great food, River Oaks does not disappoint. Towards Downtown Houston, Armandos, Eddie V’s and State of Grace offer excellent options. While in the Highland Village area, head to Frank’s Americana Revival, where a comfortable atmosphere and locally-sourced food will fill you upright. For a top Houston steak, head to Steak 48, or RA Sushi Bar, if you’d like something a little less cooked. Top off your dining experience with a cupcake from Sprinkles, and their famous cupcake vending machine available after hours.

In the River Oaks Shopping Center, head to Brasserie 19, a concept of Charles Clark and Grant Cooper where the atmosphere and fine French fare will make you feel at home. La Griglia offers authentic Italian dining with inventive cuisine, attentive service and an energetic atmosphere. Try the wild boar chop or one of many pasta dishes.
